Pottsgrove Animal Hospital  offers 24-hour emergency veterinary services, in addition to standard medical, surgical, and dental veterinary care. Appointments are available for afternoons and evenings. We are trained and equipped to handle emergency cases at any time of the day or night. If you ever feel that your pet needs emergency treatment do not hesitate to contact us immediately. However, we strongly encourage you to call in advance and schedule an appointment for standard procedures.

Regular wellness visits and comprehensive, system-by-system checklist physical examinations are an essential part of your pet's healthcare program. At Pottsgrove Animal Hospital, our specific findings and recommendations are stored and saved as detailed medical records each time your pet is examined. With every visit to our practice you always receive a written copy of our findings.

Our specific recommendations as to what vaccines are necessary to protect your pet from potential deadly diseases depend on your pet's age and lifestyle. Many controversies exist today regarding potential immune-mediated disease processes associated with overvaccination of pets.

If you have any specific concerns, we will discuss them in depth and formulate a vaccination program together to make sure your pet is protected but never overvaccinated.

Just like humans, pets need regular dental care. Regular dental checkups are performed at the time of checklist wellness visits and include examination for tartar, gum disease, fractured teeth, or even cavities. Based on our findings, we make recommendations for cleaning, in order to prevent problems in the mouth from becoming serious. Most pets need prophylactic cleaning about once a year.
With modern ultrasonic scaling and polishing equipment, simple cleaning can usually be performed without any deep general anesthesia.

Our staff is well trained in the operation of our extensive in-house laboratory equipment to quickly assist in the diagnosis of your pet's medical problem. Quality control checks to maintain the accuracy of in-house testing and equipment are performed regularly. When minutes mean the difference between life and death, having the ability to rapidly perform tests is imperative.

We also rely on large commercial laboratories for some of our practice needs. Couriers pick up samples regularly and findings are usually reported by fax within 24 hours of submission. Because of the laboratory volume of our practice, we are able to offer value savings for selected tests to our clients. Please contact us directly for more details.

Losing a pet and going through a long, unsuccessful search could be heartbreaking. Over the past few decades, different methods of keeping track of our furry friends have been developed. However, none of these traditional means of tracking pets is as reliable as microchipping. Collars and tags come off, and tattoos can be altered with ink, or eradicated completely with deep scarring. If you wish to increase your chances of recovering your pet in the event of loss, you should consider the fairly new microchipping procedure.

Microchipping is carried out in the same way as a vaccination. A tiny capsule, about the size of a grain of rice, is injected under the flap of skin on the back of the animal's neck. Veterinarians and shelters usually have scanners that read the digital number on the chip inside the capsule. If your pet is picked up as a stray after being microchipped, a quick phone call to the microchip company will provide the owner's contact information, and your pet will soon be home safe.

A microchip is completely permanent. It can not be cut off or altered. If your pet is stolen or sold to a research facility, it will be returned. Research facilities will NOT take any animal that has either a tattoo or a microchip implanted.

We also offer the following services:

  • Pharmacy
  • Prescription Diets
